Truly a hidden treasure in the middle of the country. The Nelson is a first rate art museum with collections that are truly fantastic. The Native American and Asian collections are as good as any I have seen anywhere. Admission is free and the lines are short. If you find yourself in our neck of the woods drop in and see great art from around the world. Make sure to check out the work of Kansas City master Thomas Hart Benton, and the sculpture garden full of Henry Moore pieces as well as our iconic shuttlecocks.

A great way to show off to your friends how cool and cultured KC is. I believe parking in the garage is free for the first half hour, and then it's just $10. But if you come at a low crowd time, you might be able to grab parking nearby for free instead.

This place has an amazing selection of art to look at! And about 80% of it is free to look at! Having taken an art history course, there wasn't any art movement that wasn't covered in their collection.

Have had a membership for two years now. They get wonderful exhibitions in that you wouldn't see anywhere else, Pablo Picasso is right now going on. There is free parking around building outside, there is parking covered but unless a member it costs 8 dollars. The best thing about this is the bistro there. What you typically pay for a lunch but with a touch of class and great tasting, not to mention you are eating in a museum so art and fountain and wonderful surroundings.

This is an amazing free museum - I would highly recommend it. The Picasso exhibit is challenges the mind to think in the same way that Picasso did, seeing his inspirations and understanding how it influenced his own work. The contemporary section contains many clean lines and unique pieces of art. The filtered light and translucency of the frosted windows. It provided a soft muted ambience with a dash of Jackson Pollock.

One of my favorite places! I love taking friends here who have never been and see for themselves how great this museum is. It is easy enough to navigate through the different periods and geographic locations. I also love the big open front lawn with a variety of sculptures/statues around the area. Free admission. A wonderful place to explore on a weekend afternoon.

Go see the Gates of Paradise! It's a big deal that it's part of the permanent collection.
