Securtity guard shouts at you as soon as you walk in. As if your going into a prison. Totally freaked me out. Such a huge prick! By far one of most despicable and contemptible government A-holes that I have ever seen. They should fire him immediately!
Extremely rude and disrespectful. Employees discuss personal information with friends and family outside of SSA office. Its concerning.
They're getting three stars only because though complaining through the entire process, the "customer service rep" finally got it done. My oldest son a few years ago needed to change his name on his SS card to match his Driver's License, US Passport and MO foreign adoption birth certificate. This is allowed under international adoption law without a court order. My older son had no issue then, but this time we left the Independence Ave office because the rude clerk in window 1 there yesterday thought my younger son needed a court order. Didn't know her job! Unfortunately, this guy at this office also didn't seem to recognize a US Passport in his hands, argued that the Mo Birth Cert wasn't valid as it was for adoption, and continued to process the paperwork all the while stating that he really couldn't. Weird thing is, suddenly he handed us the paper that printed out, letting us know that his SSN has his new, correct name on it and will be in our mail in 7-10 days. Weird, so weird.
I was there to change my name after getting married. Although it was busy, I was in and out in about 10 mins. They have a "fast lane" for those easy things. If you're going for something more complicated it will likely take longer, or you can make an appointment.
Security Gaurd is 110% rude! I realize security is a concern, but I almost walked out at the way he was talking to people. Elderly people have trouble hearing. No excuse to be rude!!! Needs to find a new job!
