We went in today to look at adopting a cat, the volunteers were exceptional. The cats were obviously well taken care of. The Adoption Counsler we had was super nice! She answered any and all questions I had. If you’re looking to adopt, this is the place!

While I love the facility, I am not so happy with treatment I have had when looking to adopt. Recently, my son and I went in to look at adult cats' especially since these are harder to place. We got there at 7:30 pm, signs on the door clearly state no adoptions will occur after 7 pm which was fine. First thing said by the initial front desk lady was telling us no more adoptions but we were welcome to look. She was nice. Get to the 2nd desk, first thing was that we couldn't adopt tonight. I told her the lady at the 1st reception told me and it is also on their door. She said " well I just didn't want you to get attached and not be able to adopt". I said that was fine, I understood. Then we enter the cat adoption area. Yet a 3rd employee says " can I help you?" I said "we are just looking at the cats" he harshly says "well you can't adopt!". That was it. Enough was enough. Never felt so unwelcome before as I did 11/24/17 . I decided I will go to KC pet project or Belton . First, LET THE MAIN FRONT TELL PEOPLE, no need to make people feel guilty for wanting to look. I live close, we could have decided on a cat and came back at 10 am sat. 2nd there are nicer ways to tell people." thank you so much for choosing Wayside, unfortunately our adoption process stops at 7 pm, but you are welcome to visit the pets". Very disappointed.

They NEVER answer their phone. I tried for days to contact someone and it was ALWAYS on answering machine. They may do good work but are totally inept when it comes to contacting them.

Adopt don't shop! If you are looking for a furry companion...dog/puppy, cat/kitten, rabbits and more...Wayside Waifs is a well ran pet adoption facility. All animals come spayed/neutered and with a microchip. However they did require me to buy a collar and leash for my 4mo puppy but told me I had to carry him--no ground contact--until he gets his last round of shots, which didn't make much sense to me. They have a good policy where if the pet you adopted isn't working out in your home for whatever reason, you can bring it back and they will use your adoption fee on a different pet instead. Wayside is a very thorough, professional and caring shelter and I definitely recommend them. There's no better feeling than giving a loving home to a pet that was spending its life locked in a cage.

Unfortunately, I never got to do business with them. My girlfriend and I went it looking for a dog and were impressed with the look of the building, it is very nice on the outside and inside. We signed in and went to go look at th dogs, we saw a dog we were really interested in because we wanted a larger dog and he seemed perfect. So we go to the front and ask to play with him, the lady tells us to fill out the forms and someone will bring him out. We do that and go sit down. 15 minutes later, we are still sitting there and have not gotten the chance to see the dog. Meanwhile, people have just been walking around aimlessly and the lady at the desk hasn't even let anyone know that we wanted to see a dog. We were sitting in full view of her also. We give it about 10 more minutes and still nothing, we decide we need to leave because my girlfriend has to go to work. It does not take 25 minutes to get a dog out of a kennel. When I asked if it normally takes this long, she responded with "we'll we are short staffed". Short staffed or not, I feel like we got cheated out of seeing a possible adoptee and the poor dog got cheated out of possibly going home with someone. The people in the cat room were also wildly unhelpful and frankly very rude. Do yourself a favor, go to the Great Plains SPCA, better people and they don't treat you like you're stupid.
