Rude staff, won't forward calls onto needed departments
The skilled nursing rehab part is poor for stroke patients. They are not proactive, seem to have little experience with this type of patient. Let patient develop and advance dehydration and uti. Could use all round quality goals from management and quality performance standards.
Bottom line is they need replace some of their staff with people that have compassion and want to provide exceptional service and comfort.
Nope not the place it's cracked up to be 5 stars on Medicare website has nothing to do with what really goes on. Several bad experiences therapy is the worst I have seen out of 6 different rehabs my family member was in. Wound care is a nurse walking around with a box of bandaids. Resident Doctors might as well be the shower staff as they pay the most attention to their patients. Double check everything and stay with your family member if at all possible!
If you are looking for a quality rehab facility then you might want to keep searching. This institution sucks for a number of reasons but what sticks out the most are two events. On the first night my mom was moved to this place I had a nurse tell me that my mom probably wouldn't make it very long because my she had been on a vent. The problem here is that my mom NEVER was on a vent and the nurse should never made a statement like that, especially on the first night without having all the facts.
These events occurred about 4-5 years ago and my mom has since passed away.
It"s stressful enough having to deal with your loved ones illness without having to constantly monitor the level of care they receive. I was torn on whether or not to leave this review because I didn't see what it would accomplish other than venting. I know see that even though they promised me at the time, things would change. I see it's the same if not worse than before. I don't want anyone else to go through everything I had to deal with.
Too bad all the people.whonhave had wonderful experiences at Bishop Spencer don't write reviews. This place is tops. The staff are so friendly and cheerful, and residents are treated with the utmost respect. The accommodations are very nice and common areas are kept immaculate ly clean. Activities abound, and fabulous
musicians from the Kansas City community and UMKC perform regularly in the gracious Madison living room.
Secondly, you will need to visit your family member daily and voice any concerns because if not they will simply let your loved one lay there once they push the button for assistance for help going to the bathroom which then leads to your loved one urinating on themselves which is demoralizing. Some of the staff are rude and others made excuses that they didn't have enough people to tend to everyone within minutes of someone pushing the button for help. Instead the said that they will clean up the mess once the get to the room. My mom had to wait over an hour for help, needless to say I did everything I could to ensure this never occurred again.
