The good:
It was okay I guess. Haven't actually drank anything there yet because I was DD both times. What was not cool though was during the drag show one of the Queens actually kicked my sister with her HEEL across the steps she was sitting on in order yo straddle her (my sister's) fiancee. It was all funny and stuff when the Queens were giving him attention until this point. She then later (same queen) pushed my sister aside, hard enough to have her knock heads with me who was sitting next to them, when she was sitting on her fiancee's lap.
This place used to be good, and still is for some.
8. Safety, security, hygiene comes last. Maybe the costs to buy off inspectors so customers can smoke indoors, not respect emergency egress, and have inadequate facilities for the number of patrons eats up the profits they can reinvest. Hard to believe with the watered down drinks, and cash only revenue. However, I'm sure they declare all that cash and pay their fair share of taxes.
1. David D: one of the best bartenders in town.
2. Robert C: also one of the best bartender in town.
1. Downstairs is still a dive for the most part, except for the show side.
4 pathetic drag queens that have zero talent and just put their hands out for cash while they barely lip sync. They don't work and entertain for their tips.
The bad:
9. The cover charge is applied randomly and discriminatingly. Regular heavy drinkers never pay (and are allowed to leave staggering drunk night after night). Young hot ones never pay. Friends of the staff never pay. The rest are expected to pay whether or not we are there for the show. Some of the door cover charge collectors/age checkers are very nasty people. Some are ok. Nothing there is worth the $10.00 cover if you're not there for the lame drag shows. This place needs competition in the worst way.
3 The owner, has finally put a little money back into the place, especially in the upstairs dance floor. Lighting, sound, stage, etc.
Sad a decent gay bar can't make it in this town. 303, which is too small, comes closest.
This place is not even CLOSE to being inexpensive!! Completely overly priced in EVERY way from the cover charge to drink specials to staple drinks. ALL OVERPRICED AND WATERED DOWN. The place looks like the back end of an alley bar and smells like a dirty rotten locker room. It is crusty, smelly, and frankly doesn't look like nor smell like it has had a deep cleaning....ever. The bartenders are rude and vicious. The doorman was rude and vicious. The drag queens are rude and vicious. The drinks are so watered down its an insult to top shelf liquor. TAKE YOUR MONEY AND DESIRE OF A GOOD NIGHT OUT.. ELSEWHERE.
3. watered down drinks - full of ice.
5 No control of the back stairs and smoking area. Over packed with people. Dangerous as hell if there was an emergency and people had to get out of there. How do they get away with that indoor smoking area?
7. The men's bathroom downstairs is a joke in size, maneuverability, and cleanliness. This is after the remodel of it.
2. That nasty mean viscous woman that tends bar and is a manager of some sort. Horrible person that enjoys humiliating the occasional uncomfortable customer.
It was fun until this. Then mine and my sister's mood just went south. It's fun and amusing to see the Queens play and hit on the audience. It's not fun when they actually HURT them in the process. I'm not sure I'll ever come back.
6. The rest of the bartenders cater to younger guys. The somewhat older patrons are treated like second class citizens. Hard to get a drink from them. It's clear they don't want us there, unless you're one of the near nightly heavy drinkers.
I've been here half a dozen times and have never seen the drag shows, however, that does not mean I haven't had a great time. Such a fun atmosphere and great dancing! I can't wait to see a show!
Best bar in town. Best service in sooooo many ways
